| 8/16/2010 - Rural Arson | At 5:45am on August 10th the Clay County Law Enforcement Center received a report of a fire in the 2400 block of Valleyview Road. When emergency responders arrived at the scene they found several structures on fire in three different locations within a quarter mile of each other.
The Property destroyed in this arson fire included two unoccupied farm houses, one barn, one shed, a vehicle, and 60-70 round bales.
Investigators believe the fire was set between 3:00 and 4:00am. The monetary loss has not been determined at this time.

| | 7/1/2010 - Vehicle burglaries/Juvenile Mischief | Between June 10th and June 28th there have been approximately 8 criminal damages, 3 thefts from yards, and 5 vehicle burglaries reported in Clay Center. Besides the 16 incidents that were significant enough to warrant police reports, there have been numerous complaints of other types of juvenile mischief. It is unknown whether the crimes are related or if they are being done by 2 seperate groups of suspects. Evidence leads us to believe that the suspects in all the above incidents are juveniles.
Items damaged included yard lights, patio furniture and automobiles. Items stolen included solar yard lights, car stereo, GPS unit, music CDs, and a portable radio programmed with law enforcement and fire department frequencies. The total loss in these incidents exceeds $2500.
Citizens can help protect themselves from becoming a victim of these vehicle burglaries simply by removing valuables and locking their cars.

| | 5/19/2010 - United Methodist Church Damaged | Sometime during the night of April 23rd, suspects entered the Clay Center United Methodist Church and committed several acts of criminal damage. Some of the items damaged included windows, partitions, a lighted exit sign, and a 50 inch television. The total damage estimate for this burglary is approximately $2000.00.

| | 3/18/2010 - Tractor Stolen | Sometime during the night of March 11, 2010, someone stole a John Deere 7810 tractor from a farm in the 1400 block of Osage Road in Clay County. The suspects drove the tractor south on Osage and accidently lowered the front loader causing it to gouge into the roadway. The loader sustained extensive damage from digging into the road. This may have caused injuries to anyone riding on the tractor. The tractor was found March 13, 2010 in a pasture near the intersection of 26th Road and Thunder Road. This was approx. 25 miles from where the tractor was stolen. The suspects apparently used the stolen tractor to cause extensive damage to the gates, panels, and fences on this property. The tractor was burned up in a fire and was completely destroyed. The total loss in damages to the tractor and pasture may be as high as $85,000.00.

| | 3/3/2010 - Farm Building Burglary | | Sometime between January 2nd and February 6th, 2010, suspects burglarized a farm building in the 500 block of 27th Road, near Clifton, KS. Items stolen in the burglary included a Multi Power generator, Dewalt 18 volt drill, Stihl 029 chainsaw, Stihl 017 chainsaw, and a set of jumper cables. The total loss in this burglary is estimated to be over $2000.00.

| | 12/14/2009 - Wardcraft Homes Burglary | | During the night of December 4th, 2009, a burglary occurred at Wardcraft Homes in Clay Center. During the incident the building was entered by unknown suspects and copper wiring was stolen. The wire taken included 6 1000` rolls of 12-3 wire, 2 1000" rolls of 14-2 wire, and 1 1000` roll of 14-3 wire. The loss in this incident was over $2,800.00. It`s likely that the suspects will burn the insulation off of the wire and attempt to sell it as scrap metal.

| | 10/27/2009 - Spray Paint Vandalism | | On the night of October 14th, 2009, suspect(s) used black spray paint to damage at least five vehicles in Clay Center and at the East Side Trailer Court. There was also spray paint damage reported at the Boy Scout Cabin. The suspect(s) were believed to be driving a dark colored S-10 type pickup truck. The loss in these incidents was over $2000.00.

| | 9/17/2009 - Tires Slashed | On September 4th, 2009 six vehicles were damaged at the Clay Center Community High School parking lot. These vehicles belonged to members of the footbal team. The damage was done while the team was at an "away" game. All six of the vehicles had a tire slashed and one had damage to the paint. The loss in this incident is estimated to be $1989.00.
